Neil Whittaker Wins Florist of the Year

by Charlotte.Barnes on November 1, 2010

Interflora florist Neil Whittaker has won the British Florist Association’s prestigious Florist of the Year competition. The victory means he will go on to compete for Great Britain in the Europa Cup.

The Europa Cup will take place next September in the Czech Republic. Neil will take part in three days of intense competition with representatives from around 20 other countries. He represented Britain in 2007 in Slovenia, reaching a very well deserved fourth place – the highest ever reached by a British competitor.

The BFA’s Florist of the Year competition – staged between October 23rd and 24th – saw competitors create five designs, four of which were based on the elements. The briefs were:

  • Hand-tied design – Fire
  • Free expression – Water
  • Planted – Earth
  • Bridal design – Wind
  • Surprise item

Neil competed alongside seven other florists. Four of the flower designs were created before the competition, while the final three had to be created in front of the judges.
