When I was pregnant it was our first V-Day together as a married couple. I was having a totally mad moment as when my husband opened up the V-Day card I had written my exes name in it. He actually didnt speak to me for about 3 days and I dont blame him but I blame my pregnancy memory! oops!! 6 years later we are as happy as anything and I now put a LOT more thought into writing my cards!!!!

I always thought valentines were awful, never had a card etc (cue violins). Then found a great boyfriend but not the card buying type lol and it was a little frustrating. However after him having a heart attack on valentines day a few years back it really isn't important anymore so as long as we spend it together i'm happy.

I'd only been going out with my boyfriend for a few months so he hadn't yet got the measure of my likes and dislikes. So in the run-up to Valentines day, he'd been discreetly attempting to find out what I might want. He consulted my best friend for advice on which perfumes I wore, what kind of chocolate I preferred......that sort of thing. She was sworn to secrecy. Now she was many things my mate, but discreet wasn't one of them and it wasn't long before she cracked. Over tea and a biccie, she blurted out what he was up to. Surprise ruined! Never mind. At least I knew he was making an effort.
She assured me that whatever I go, it would be good. She'd explained that he should choose something personal or something I'd use and she'd suggested jewellery or beauty products. I did indeed like jewellery and I was known among my circle of friends as a bit of a product junkie so I felt the girl had done good.
After a week or so, I'd forgotten all about the 'surprise Valentines present' until the big day itself arrived. By then, I was a flourry of excitement. Could it be earrings? A big box of chocs? CD's? By the time he arrived at my flat for the romantic meal I was cooking, I was desperate to see what he'd got. He came in, sat down (disappointedly, I noted there were no flowers...) and placed a gift wrapped box next to him on the sofa. Too big for jewellery I thought, unless it was a complete set - earrings, necklace, ring (OMG!) - no...far too soon....maybe it's a pretty figurine - he can't not have noticed I love anything to do with cats.....lingerie even?? MY thoughts came to an abrupt halt as he got up, wandered towards me, handed me the box and said '"I hope you like this. I wanted to get you something useful."
I let out an excited 'thank you' and began to tear into the box. Finally I made it through the wrapping to the gift box itself. I prised open the lid which revealed a layer of pretty pink straw. I removed it and underneath lay my prize.
"D'you like it?" he asked, sounding quite pleased with himself.
After a moment of stunned silence, I refound my voice and roared "No, I bloody well don't! What the hell leads you to think I want, or need for that matter 2 jars of anti-wrinkle cream and an anti-ageing cleanser???? I was 24 at the time!!!

An ex that I'd had a very long relationship used to delight in telling me that from his mid teens he'd received a Valentines Card from an anonymous admirer every year and he really had no idea who it was from. There was always a cryptic message but would also contain information that few people knew about my ex. Every year at Valentines, he'd go on about this 'secret admirer' although the cards stopped arriving when we got together. I found it a bit annoying to be honest! After we split, I remained on good terms with his Mum. One time when I was visiting her around Valentines Day she confided to me that for years, she had arranged for her friend to write a card and send to my ex so that he at least got 1 card - since we'd split, she'd have to start doing it again ;-) He still doesn't know, how smug do I feel.....

My worst valentines day was last year - I was 3 months pregnant and thought my partner would really spoil me - a big box got delivered for me - gosh i was so excited opening it - until I opened it - IT WAS A VACUUM CLEANER!!!

The day just went from bad to worse - think through guilt he took me to our local restaurant a gorgeous wee place (wee being the right word only has 8 tables). We sat down to our meal, which was lovely when I started feeling unwell, and had to rush to the toilet. The restuarant is that small it only has 1 toilet and it sits just off the dining area. I was ill really sick for about 5 minutes.
I walked out the toilet to everyone looking at me and went back to the table and my partner said to me - we all heard you - could you not have been a bit quieter!!!!

Not been back to the restaurant since - that valentines day is one that I will never forget for the wrong reasons.

Cant wait to see what treats in store this year??? lol

Many years ago I received an anonymous card at work - filled with poems and words of love. I thought it was my male colleagues messing but everybody denied it. A few months later I was in a nightclub when a nerdy guy started dancing with me. He asked me if I'd received such a card. I was suprised as he was a perfect stranger to me. Apparantly he workeed in the office block opposite and watched me come and go every day. An old school friend worked in his block and gave him my name. It must have taken loads of courage for him to approach me, however I didn't fancy him at all and I had to let him down gently. But I was very flattered and I thought it very romantic. I hope he found happiness like I did. I celebrate my silver wedding anniversary this year.

A few years ago my hubby presented me with a huge and I mean huge bouquet of flowers on valentines day, I was so impressed and after giving him a kiss I went to get some vases out and prepare the flowers, trim them etc, on closer inspection I noticed most of the flowers were wilting, and even had mould on the stems, at first I was so upset that somewhere could have sold him such rotten flowers and asked him where he had bough them so I could give the piece of my mind, then the truth came out, when he had finished work the day before (he worked in a butchers) he had left via the back door and noticed a load of flowers dumped in the skip from the small supermarket next door , he had 'rescued' them and thinking 'because I had done a floristry' course that I could 'do something with them'................ oh yes, I did something with them alright, but to print it here would be too impolite lol !!

My worst valentines day was just last year, I had bought my wife a lovely real gold expensive bracelet and several charms to go on it, she had been hinting for a long time and after 20 years of marriage I decided it was a perfect gift. On the wednesday evening just a few days before I attentively slotted the charms onto the bracelet to set it up ready, popped it back in one of the boxes to wrap , she came into the kitchen so I hurredly flung all traces of prezzie into the 2 padded envelopes and shoved them in the cupboard.
Later I got them back out wrapped one box and threw the other boxes, bubble wrap etc into the bin......... on valentines day I presented her with the prezzie....... she excitedly opened it and I dont know who was more shocked, myself or her, inside the box was a mix of small bubble wrap bags, tags and pins, no bracelet to be seen, as it was a saturday, my stomach fell when I realised what had happened, bin day was thursday............ sufice to say she did forgive me but somewhere in the north east on a tip lies over £800 worth of bracelet :(
