It started with a flower on the car - then flowers in each room of the house - I had to follow the flowers into each room and then at the end of the trail was the card and a note of where we were going for valentines night.

She felt ill and had forgotten to pack her mascara, so was grumpy as we made our way from our hotel room to the Registry Office. To top it, she accidentally (I think) let go of the swing doors at the exit to the hotel and caught me in the face...

After the ceremony, we sat at the restaurant table (just the two of us, because we'd chosen to do it alone), and looked at each other - she with her mascara-free eyes, and me with what was to be a pretty impressive shiner from the door incident.. Suddenly, she took my hand and placed it on her tummy. She'd felt our baby kick for the first time..

The most wonderful Valentine's Day ever.

Mine would be back in 2003, we had our middle girl emma by an emergency c/section, she was in intensive care for 2 weeks, & me in hosptial for 1 week.
Obviously a traumatic time for me & hubby, but he still managed to have the energy to arrange a 1 night away. I didn't know he was doing this, my mum and dad came over to stay witht the children, he'd packed a bag for us and said right lets go!
We went to this beautiful manor house, and we entered our room, I saw the most beautiful site, he'd gone there earlier, and placed rose petals around the room, congratulation ballons on the birth of our girl, and he'd hidden and eternity ring in a lovely box of choccy's! He'd also booked me in to have a spa/massage treatment, hair nails etc at the hotel! I felt like royalty, it was so lovely as we'd had a terrible time.
And through out the evening I kept getting tearful as this was the most precious thing he'd done for me. Obviously apart form having our daughter.

It was a damp, dreary, Valentines morning. I was miserable, single, badly hung-over and shuffling along a London street in search of a pint of milk and a packet of paracetamol. Scruffy jeans, grubby sweatshirt, unkempt hair, a puffy, unwashed face and a raging headache. All in all, not the best look for snaring a valentine!

Maybe it was the effects of too much alcohol the night before or just plain lack of sleep but as I stumbled along the pavement, I began to feel woozy. I trudged on regardless but the sensation worsened and I dropped to my knees, overcome by dizziness and nausea. Squatting there, in a very unladylike pose in the middle of the pavement, I wished I'd never ventured outdoors in the first place. From no-where, a pair of trainered-feet appeared and stopped right in front of me. Their owner crouched down and a male voice asked me my name. I vaguely remember mumbling something back about feeling sick. Then I was gently prised to my feet and somehow, manoeuvred across to a nearby wall. He took off his jacket, folded it around my shoulders and sat down next to me. Eventually the nausea and dizziness passed and I was just about to thank him for his kindness when he offered to help me find somewhere to sleep for the night. At first, I'd no idea what he was rambling on about until he starting mentioning 'hostels' and 'hot meals'......and it slowly dawned on me that my good samaritan thought I was homeless. Did I really look that rough?

I was mortified. I told him I'd had a heavy night and assured him I did indeed have a home - albeit a tiny, rented flat. His embarrassment and and my need for caffeine lead me to accept his offer of a coffee. We headed for the nearest cafe and despite an awkward start, were soon deep in conversation. I soon forgot all about feeling miserable, being single and being hangover. I soon discovered 'Jamie' was witty, sporty and compassionate enough to stop and help one of London's many homeless (or so he'd thought at the time). How could I not fall for him?

By the end of the day, we were having a meal in a pretty little restaurant. I'd found my Valentine after all and he had to admit, I scubbed up pretty well!

My hubby always seems to end up working on valentines day, no matter what day of the week it falls on. But one year he had promised to be home, unfortunately his truck caught fire over in Germany a couple of days before and his employers ordered him to stay with it until the repairs were done, about 4 or 5 days. This was all pre-mobile phone so I only got a very short call to explain.
I cancelled all our plans and went to bed as usual on the 13th, only to be woken up the next morning by the dogs barking and the front door opening... he had only hitch hiked all the way back!
His bosses weren't impressed, but I was. And it was simple enough for him to go back with another driver the next week to collect his truck

My husband is very practical and not a romantic. He got me jelly candles for our first Valentine's day! A very romantic thought, but...by candles, I mean identical candles, each in a tiny shot glass and came in a packet of three. He got me 2 packets as it was buy 1 get 1 free! I was so lost for words. From then on, he gets me a fancy candle every year and we always have a good laugh at the 'candles in bulk' gift =)

My best valentine's day is when my then-boyfriend spent three days getting over to visit me. He was supposed to spend three days with me and then fly off to his destination. However, his flight was cancelled three times. THREE TIMES!

He had to sleep over in two different airports in the space of two days, and when he eventually got to me, we only had less than a day together - about 12 hours. This is after him spending about 16 hours in planes and about another 30 just hanging around in airports and airport hotels.

When he eventually got there, we went out for a curry - and he popped the question right there in the curry house! I put it down to his tiredness and spending too much time up in the air, and laughed it off. He then went down on one knee...RIGHT THERE IN THE CURRY HOUSE. Oh My God was all I could think of...

He then proceeded to explain (all the while down on one knee with everyone in the restaurant STARING) that it wasn't meant to happen this way - we had three days and he was going to do it somewhere more romantic and private. However we've lost our reservations due to him being stranded in various different countries - it was literally now or never as we weren't sure when were we going to see each other again.

I of course said yes:)

My perfect valentines day was being woken up to breakfast in bed (tray with a red rose, fresh coffee, a home made smoothie and my fav granola). I had a meeting to get to 200 miles away but my boyfriend (Bless him) had got up super early to make sure we had breakfast together. I thought awwww to myself....Anyway the day went on. Attended my meeting and rushed home. I wasn't even aware that we were going out in the evening and sitting at home snuggling on the sofa with a glass of wine and some choccies at home would be okay with me. Anyway when I eventually got home about 8:00 i was suprised with a bag. It was the dress I had spotted a couple of weeks earlier. He had bought it for me and told me to get ready quick smart coz we were going out. I was shocked and sooo excited so I ran upstairs to get ready where a big box choccies were laid on the bed. The taxi man beeped his horn and before I knew it I was in a taxi heading to my fav restaurant in the City [a bit of maoning on my behalf coz I didn't get chance to do my hair!!!]. He had booked a table at the restaurant on the 21st floor. It was amazing and so romantic. He told me I looked beautiful and really loved . We sipped pink champagne and ate some wonderful food. After we'd had such a lovely night we went back home snuggled on the sofa and feel asleep together.
