sunflowers growing interfloraWell, it’s time for lesson two in growing sunflowers and the competition has really taken off here at Interflora.

It’s been just over a week since the contest started and our marketing department is really getting into the swing of things. This week’s clear winner was Francesca though, with her sunflower, ‘Sunny (not Cher)’ growing to an amazing 7cm. Sam also received a prize for her sunflower, ‘Princess Kate’ and a lovely Interflora-inspired pot decoration.

There’s a definitely sense of friendly rivalry in the air as everyone tries to keep their sunflower growing secrets to themselves while keeping a close eye on the competition. If you’re giving sunflower growing a try at home, here’s the tips we’ve managed to gather so far:

  • Once you plant the seeds, leave your sunflower in a dark, warm place until it sprouts.
  • Water your plant from the base by pouring water into the dish your pot stands in.
  • Place a plastic cup over your plant to trap CO2 and feed your sunflower.
  • Give your sunflower plenty of sun!

So there you have it! It’s only been one week and our staff are swiftly turning into enthusiastic gardeners. We’re gearing up for the third measuring session and who knows which of our lovely sunflowers will be taking the lead next?
