Head of Floral Gifting, Karen Barnes, is in charge of keeping an eye on upcoming trends, so she can work them into our range. She begins by looking 15-18 months in advance to see what’s on the horizon.
It is often that homes and interiors trends are the most relevant, so these make up a large part of Karen’s research. She looks for themes and begins to group similar trends together, according to what is most appropriate to Interflora.
The trend for Summer 2011 is ‘uplifting’. During last year Karen began to research what would be popular now and began to create a mood board, which you can see below.
As you can see from the mood board, the trends are bright, cheerful colours, mixed into all sorts of combinations. Softer tones can be mixed with these brighter colours to create interesting contrasts.
Other keywords for this season are romantic, natural, energise and excite.
As far as arranging the summer flowers goes, the idea is to go for a ‘just gathered’ look that is natural and simple in its beauty.
Once we have an outline for the trends of a season the details are sent out to all our florists and suppliers. This is so they can order in the flowers and sundries they may need to provide their customers with the most sought after bouquets that season.
This research also inspires us to create new products to fit with the trends.
The Summer Bright Gift Bag is a perfect example of an on-trend gift. It’s full of bright, bold colours and comes in a cheerful jute bag. It includes the most radiant shades of pink, purple and yellow. There’s also some lavender in there to make the gift smell gorgeous too.
Another gift perfectly in keeping with this season’s trends is the Pretty Petite Basket with Chocolates. It’s bound to brighten up any home with the hottest colours this summer. There’s beautiful orange germinis, cerise roses and blue September flowers.
The Scent of Summer Vase Arrangement is a sweetly scented and elegant bouquet. It’s a very natural, simple design giving the impression that each flower has just been picked from the garden. It features shades of pink, peach and yellow and comes in a lavender glass vase.
To keep on trend this summer you should be looking out for bright colours, contrasting shades and an energising feel to all the flowers in your home.
