Growing sunflowers the Interflora way!

by Stefania Del Zotto on June 22, 2011

how-to-grow-a-sunflowerWhen the word ‘activity’ is mentioned in a business meeting, the first idea that pops into your head involves graphs, facts and figures. So imagine our surprise when a collection of pots, seed packets and compost was placed on the table in our Lincolnshire marketing head office.

And so begins the first Interflora Sunflower growing lesson. Our task is simple; grow a sunflower! But let’s remember for a minute here, we are not technically trained for this and most of us wouldn’t know our foot from a fuchsia. That’s where the competition part comes in. After a few minutes reading the back of the seed packet we were away and, after trying not to make too much of a mess in the boss’s office, have now successfully planted our sunflower seeds.

So now, after naming and decorating our cherished little pots, the race is on to grow the best sunflower possible. Or at least, grow one at all! As our tiny buds progress we’ll be keeping you up to date with the highs (and lows) of growing sunflowers. We’ll be measuring our shoots at regular intervals and keep you posted about any tips we manage to pick up from Lincolnshire locals to make our own sunflower the winner!

If you want to join in the fun, but without all the mess, send sunflowers to someone from our website.  You can also send a variety of flowers through our florists in Lincolnshire.

Wish all meetings were as much fun as yours Charlotte 🙂
Sunflowers are great – I managed to grow one as high as the fence a few years ago. These are amazing plants – let’s hope we get a glorious summer to really do them justice. Happy horticulture 🙂
