The floral design exhibit named ‘Succession’ was created by a team of five young florists aged from 21 to 27 years and has been awarded a Gold medal in recognition of the floral creativity and artistry displayed in its concept and construction.
All five florists, who were all selected for their passion, floristry skills and creativity, have previously won awards in competitive floristry including a Gold medal and the title of the RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year 2013 for 25 year old Paula McLagan and Interflora’s Florist of the Future 2013 for 24 year old Rebecca Hough.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014 was the first time the young florists have all worked together on a project of this scale and the team have been mentored by RHS Chelsea Gold medal winning Interflora florist David Ragg.
The exhibit, which consists of five wire canopy frames each individually designed, has been adorned with beautiful flowers falling in the colour palettes of pinks, oranges and yellows. Common features connect the frames giving the exhibit a clean, fresh and cohesive appearance.
David Ragg explains further, “Each frame has been internally lit and mirrors on the base of the exhibit enable visitors to view the inside of the frames. It is a truly exceptional design and shines a light on the young talent in the florist industry today.”
Congratulating the team on their success, Helen Quinn, Interflora Commercial Director, “The Interflora network has a wealth of extremely talented florists. The creativity, innovative design and individuality these talented young florists have shown today is immense and showcases the exciting future ahead in floristry.”
