As I ate my first mince pie of the season yesterday I thought about the origins of Christmas dinner and some of those classic Christmas dishes…..
We set fire to our Christmas puddings to banish evil spirits, we eat turkey because King James I once decided it would be easier on his digestive system, and we munch away on mince pies because, well, they’re delicious!
Indulgence is such a big part of Christmas that we send our friends and family food hampers full of Christmas goodies!
Over the last few days I have been asking you take part in our Christmas Hampers competition – to get your thinking hats on (or perhaps your reindeer antlers) and fill in the blanks for the following sentence:
If I were a Christmas dish/food I would be……………………. because ………………………………………………
Our Christmas panel has now decided which they felt were the best and I am pleased to announce that the winners are as follows:
1st Prize goes to Patricia Edwards – winning The Christmas Star Hamper
‘I’d be a nice piece of cheddar, because I’m well natured and you’d be crackers not to pick me’’
2nd Prize goes to Sparkler – winning The Christmas Festivites Hamper
‘If I were a Christmas dish/food I would be a Christmas Kiss because you can have as many as you like and never gain an ounce!’
3rd Prize goes to Sue Harrison – winning Fairtrade Festive Feast Hamper
‘Nuts!’ (for sheer simplicity!)
Congratulations to all of our winners! We have really enjoyed running the competition.
Thank you and merry Christmas to everyone who entered!
