Fun and Flowers: Raising Money for Breast Cancer Care

by Bethany Day on August 2, 2013

Every summer Breast Cancer Care asks their supporters to host a Strawberry Tea party to help raise money for people living with breast cancer and today it was the turn of Interflora HQ to put on a fantastic fundraising event.

With this year being our 90th anniversary, we opted for a vintage theme for our Strawberry Tea party with activities including a cake sale, raffle and flower school workshops.

Expert Interflora florist Karen from Bluebells florist in North Hykeham showed off her floristry skills with a vintage flower arranging demonstration.

After the demonstration Karen then taught us how to create floral cupcakes- the latest fashion to hit the world of floristry.

Just take a look at some of the amazing designs created. They certainly look good enough to eat!

During the class we also played a ‘Guess the Flower’ game where blindfolded volunteers had to guess what flower they were holding through using their senses.

In total the event raised more than £500 for Breast Cancer Care and will enable the charity to continue providing emotional support and information services to anyone affected by the illness. It’s a cause that we’ve been supporting since September 2005 and to date we’ve raised more than £650,000 for the charity.

If you want to hold your own Strawberry Tea Party, there’s still plenty of time. All you need to do to take part is get together with your friends and family, buy or bake some cakes, add some strawberries, put the kettle on and away you go. And it doesn’t matter if you raise £20 or £200 at your Strawberry Tea because every penny will help the charity support the 50,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

That sounds like it was an amazing event. It’s so great to see people helping to raise breast cancer awareness.
