David Ragg talks about the new Interflora Flower School

by Charlotte.Barnes on October 24, 2011

We caught up with David Ragg, one of the expert florists leading classes at the Interflora Flower School. He talks about the benefits of the school and why he’s looking forward to passing on his expertise.

What skill level is the Flower School aimed at?

The Flower School is aimed at all levels, but would really suit improving beginners or enthusiastic hobbyists.

What skills will guests take away from the Flower School?

Guests will learn the basics of design and form, how to use flowers in a decorative way, using colours and textures and, most of all, having a bit of fun along the way! You’ll learn plenty of tips and techniques, which you can put into use in the future when arranging and caring for flowers at home.

What themes will you be tutoring in your classes?

The first theme is Continental Christmas, in which we will explore European-style design with the use of interesting and new techniques. The second theme is Winter Wonderland, which is a bit more traditional but with the emphasis on frosty adornments and accessories.

What’s the inspiration behind these themes?

I love to see what trends there are elsewhere in the world, particularly at Christmas time. And by using some of the more interesting techniques the finished designs always have that extra ‘wow’ factor.

Do you think the Flower School strengthens Interflora’s position as ‘the flower experts’?

It ‘s really important that Interflora is seen to be all encompassing with its floral expertise. The Flower School will further establish this by passing on key knowledge and tips, while ensuring all the time that the brand is the true market leader and as strong as ever. In a nutshell, we’ve got plenty of great talent that we want to share.

Are you looking forward to interacting and working with attendees?

I love taking classes. To share my experiences and knowledge with others is what it’s really all about. I get great satisfaction from helping people create from scratch a wonderful design of which they can be truly proud.

Do you think a place at a Flower School class would be a good gift?

A place in a class at the Flower School would be an excellent Christmas gift. It would certainly be something very different to the norm and I’m sure that anyone would be delighted to receive it. Of course, it’s also a super gift for anniversaries and birthdays, which the pre-Christmas dates would be most suited to, or perhaps just an indulgent treat for someone special before the festive season.

What are your thoughts on the location?

Chandos House in London is the perfect choice for the Flower School. It will provide the ideal backdrop for the floral designs, as well as supplying that all-important element of luxury. Our guests will feel very spoilt to be ‘working’ in such beautiful surroundings. It really will be an experience to enjoy and remember, as well as one which will provide tips which will be put to use for years to come.
