Eat, drink and be merry – five words that sum up Christmas fantastically, capturing at least a small part of what the Christmas holiday is about.
Our Christmas hampers shop is now open and we have invited, Laura James a professional journalist and food writer to tell us what she thinks of our Christmas gift hampers collection for 2009…..

Gone are the days when a Christmas hamper contained a box of limp biscuits and a strange flavoured chutney nobody likes.

Now you’re more likely to find something for everyone, whether they’re a fan of designer shoes, cupcakes, nostalgia sweets or more traditional festive goodies.
Hampers are to Christmas what Victoria Beckham is to heels and it’s always a thrill to receive one. Delving in to discover what goodies lie inside is huge fun and always a surprise.
Top of my wish list is Interflora’s Rich Plum Pamper Gift Hamper, full of blissful beauty products and guaranteed to relax anyone frazzled by Christmas cooking.

I’m also completely in love with the Sweet Memories Gift Box, which is full of sweets I haven’t eaten since I stopped being given double detention. Milk bottles and shrimps are among the dizzyingly sweet confections – if you’re like me, one sniff will take you straight back to childhood.

On my present list for my grander friends is the Duchy Originals Organic Gift Basket. It’s packed in a proper, traditional wicker hamper. It is full of delicious treats, including hand-made preserves and honeys. Sending someone this hamper will make someone very happy indeed.

There’s even a hamper that will appeal to the most rugged of men. The Outdoors Essential Backpack contains everything you need for a fun day out, including tea, coffee, a flask, mugs and spoons and even lots of yummy chocolate.

As well as gift hampers, Interflora has a range of hampers bursting with Christmas foods. They’re perfect for getting you into the Christmas spirit. I’m going to be sending them to everyone I wish I could spend Christmas Day with and I’m seriously hoping that someone will send me the Giant Chocolate Cracker.

If you’re looking to make Christmas morning special for your partner, then a good start would be the Luxury Breakfast Tray. It has everything you need for a truly blissful breakfast, including a bottle of Buck’s Fizz and delicious Scottish smoked salmon.

I always find people are genuinely delighted to receive a Christmas hamper. And that’s lovely because there’s nothing more satisfying than giving a gift that is well received. I still haven’t worn the nylon bed jacket someone who doesn’t know me very well thought I would like last Christmas!
